I finished colorway 1 with 20.76 g left, so there will be plenty to work the neck ribbing.
Colorway 2, Tide, started with 98.83 g. As I was winding, I noticed more particularly that it’s dyed in alternating blocks of white and dark blue, rather than being spotted like colorway 1 was. That means I’m likely to get the same effect as at the bottom of the CotLin U-Neck, with the zigzagging stripes. Argh! Stymie #1.
I finished the first band of colorway 2 with 59.15 g of yarn left. It turned out to not be too zigzag-y on 282 sts, so we’ll have to see what happens at the bottom of the body, where the stitch count will be 230 sts in the stockinette and 228 in the ribbing.
Colorway 3, Wave, started with 98.31 g.
Since I’ll split the sleeves and body on round 85, I’ll put a pin in each group of the sleeve sts on round 80 to allow me to count the sleeves’ rounds more easily. Of the 282 yoke sts, there are 55 on each sleeve and 86 on the front and the back. The back sts must of course be centered on the BOR, where the back-neck short-row shaping was centered, then each sleeve’s sts must be counted outward from the ends of the back’s sts.
The colorways are blending well enough that I’m not going to bother switching the body BOR to the left underarm “seam” like I did on the CotLin U-Neck. Instead, it will remain at the center of the back.
I finished the first body band of colorway 3 with 66.90 g left.
Since I know I’m in no danger of yarn chicken on any of the colorways, I’m going to work the first band of colorway 4 on the body before I work colorway 3 on both sleeves. Doing so means I save some effort moving sts from circ(s) to my ribbon stitch holders and back again. When I finish colorway 4 on the body, I’ll complete each sleeve in each entirety, which will required winding colorway 5, Eclipse, to finish the first sleeve. When the second sleeve is done, then I’ll be ready to finish the body, starting with the double-height band of colorway 5.
Colorway 4, Stream, started with 99.47 g.
The body shaping starts on round 106. I put a yellow light-bulb marker through a stitch on round 100, just to make subsequent counting quicker. I work the body increases every 13 rounds, which is made easier by my keeping the BOR at the center back rather than at the left “seam.”
Unfortunately, colorways 3 and 4 are not as noticeably different when worked up as they seemed to be in the hank. Argh again! Stymie #2.
I don’t know if the similarity of those two colorways would have been more noticeable if I’d untwisted the hanks and laid the loops side by side. Shrug. Even if it had been noticeable, what would I have done? Stopped working this sweater adventure and frogged the yarn to use it in a different project? Nope. Knowing the yarn issues sooner wouldn’t have changed my mind, so I’m carrying on.
I finished the first body band of colorway 4 with 69.67 g of yarn left.
I worked the first sleeve in its entirety, starting back with colorway 3. There were 58.88 g of colorway 3 left and colorway 4 has 59.62 g left when it was done.
Colorway 5 started with 105.30 g, and I changed to 2×2 ribbing on round 128. I did a round and a half of ribbing before I realized I hadn’t switched to the 2.50 mm needle. Sigh.
I finished the first sleeve with 95.11 g of colorway 5 remaining.
