Since I already have a sweater in the yarn, I can use its fit to figure out what changes I should make to improve this second sweater.
When I put the CotLin U-Neck on and examined myself carefully in the mirror, I decided to make the following changes after pinching off bits of the fabric in key places:
- Chest: decrease by 24 sts (about an inch at both sides on both front and back)
- Hips: decrease by 36 sts (about 1.5 inches at both sides on both front and back)
- Underarm: 15 sts are fine
- Yoke Depth: decrease depth by 1 in, and include ribbing in the total (because back neck was much too high)
- Sleeves: st count is fine, but shorten by an inch to move cuff away from elbow crease
- Body: 1–2 inches longer, depending on available yarn
These changes alter the numbers from the first to the second sweater:
- Chest: 226–24 = 202 sts
- Hip: 266–36 = 230 sts
- Underarm: unchanged at 15 sts
- Yoke Depth: 84 rounds total at back neck, this time including the 7 ribbing rounds, so 77 rounds of stockinette
- Sleeves: 53 total rounds after underarm, including the same 10 rounds of ribbing
- Body: 126–135 total rounds after underarm, including the same 10 rounds of ribbing, depending on yarn usage
